Here is the online m17 R3 Service Manual. Sounds like an electrical noise issue like you said. So I'd recommend =
* Shut down the laptop all the way * Disconnect the external AC power from the laptop * Remove the base cover (page 10) * Disconnecting the battery cable from the system board (page 25) * Hold down the power button down for 15 seconds * Then reconnect in the battery cable, replace the base cover, and check if it happens again
