m17 R3, keyboard lighting not working, AWCC components missing

Hello,

I attempted to fix my non-working keyboard lights (they flash random colors and go out all together) by uninstalling/reinstalling AWCC. I deleted "Alienware CC Components for AWCC (1.1.22.0) and am unable to find it online to reinstall it.

My keyboard lighting issue remains unresolved. I uninstalled/reinstalled via the directions on Dell.com and still no success.

If anyone can help me with these issues I would be appreciative.

Cheers,

Marco

P.s. All my drivers are up-to-date from Dell.com. I have per-key lighting feature.

Google for Alienfx-tools. It's AWCC alternative, and have a command-line check of lights among other tools.

If it not works for you - it can be hardware issue, most probably with keyboard cable (i meet this before at mine 13 R2).

Hi @MarPocolo  same fault with our new 17 R5 that we purchased during 2020. Our keyboard has per key RGB lighting. Our 17 R5 is stuck in dark mode.

Hi @MarPocolo welcome to this user to user forum.

Dell Support for Alienware m17 R3 Drivers & Downloads will provide both AWCC and OC Controls updates. Click on the top right hand [Detect Drivers] box to customise this webpage content to your System Service Tag. You will then get recommendations which updates are awaiting installation on your m17 R3. Saving this as a shortcut is useful for your future visits.

To install updates, always open your local admin account and download updates onto your computer. Right click and Run as administrator. When install finished, always select (Shutdown option) Restart, so that these changes are saved into the Operating System.

Having installed both AWCC and OC Controls updates, open AWCC and click on the FX tab, select and open the lighting options. You should see an option to customise your keyboard lighting.

Please share an update. Thank you.

Hi @INXSEX  you have been a member since 25 December 2019. The AWCC and OC Controls updates are both required for Alienware gaming computers.

Hi @MarPocolo  do you now have AWCC access to the AlienFX settings page to get your keyboard lights to work?

Great! Thank you so much for finding this link! This got the program "Alienware CC Components for AWCC (1.1.22.0)" back. I can now overclock and adjust thermals on AWCC again. My keyboard lighting problem remains unfixed...

I have access to AlienFX page to change light colors, however the my keyboard is void of light and color. I click and change colors and there is no response on the keyboard; it remains dark. (Dark Mode is not active) (Alien-head and Tron colors are active and responsive)

When I start the computer it flashes the rainbow wave for a few moments before it blinks and turns off.

Occasionally random keys will flash random colors like a glitch.

Repairing the app has fixed the problem temporarily in the past but after a few days the keyboard lights shut off and go blank.

Downloaded and tried the software. It was able to change the color of my Tron light but the keyboard lights remain unaffected and dark.

Thank you for your help.

Hi @MarPocolo  thank you for sharing update. "When I start the computer it (keyboard) flashes the rainbow wave for a few moments before it blinks and turns off. My keyboard lighting problem remains unfixed..."

During POST (power-on self-test) all hardware is briefly tested to confirm that it is detected and works. You say that the keyboard self test confirms keyboard lights are working and displays rainbow wave.

Please go to AWCC, FX, Lighting, Keyboard settings and look for Keyboard lighting On and its setting for "Keyboard backlight will turn off if there is no activity for: " and select never off. Hopefully, all keyboard lights will now work and user customised.

UPDATE: My computer no longer flashes the rainbow wave upon start up. It now flashes one color then flashes random colors undirected. Random flashes now coincide with random keys not working even as I am typing this paragraph.

Perhaps a hardware issue.

Your keyboard is working. AWCC FX keyboard settings is not working. Perhaps an install software problem.
