Before any like for like system exchange is allowed, three part replacement services must be done first to see if the issue can fixed. These are initiated through DELL-Cares.
If the display seems loose or is not sticking closed even after making sure the display is making proper contact with the magnets on the palmrest area then it means that the magnets are faulty. depending on how long ago you bought it, you should be able to return it and get a replacement model if you explain your problem to Dell or Alienware Support thoroughly. @DELL-Chris M should be qualified to speak more on about the issue.
Hi @RamaIndrawan welcome to this free user to user Alienware laptop discussion forum. This is not Dell Support.
Users are expected to carry/hold laptop with hinge part at the top.
A sleeve is recommended when moving laptop outdoors, especially if raining. A carry case is recommended to protect laptop, ac adapter, etc. if using away from home or place of work. There are many options on the internet.
Thanks for the input. Well, I could If I wanted to but all other laptop brands that Ive carried in the past, shouldnt have to be specifically treated that way. I usually would carry with the hinge at the bottom and in a position as if i am carrying a notepad / book, and the lid wouldnt open.
i have gone to some local retailers and further found out that there are laptops that behave like this ( the lid easily opens ) and there are some that done ( like very firmly sticking with the palm rest, no gap ). Mac and Microsoft surface are amognst the one with awesome build quality and dont allow the screen to wobble in this situation.
HP, Dell ( alienware ), amongst a few others, unfortunately do open. Unsure, if its "intentionally" designed like that, and if yes whats the purpose ?
It was never made so the lid could be fully shut and require lots of effort to open it. Take for example my current work laptop, the Alienware 17 R4 and its powerful magnets that keep the screen closed as well as the hinge design. it was made differently than your x14 R1 which is made to keep the lid shut but still make it easy to open it up.
Please use metal washer (or similar) to test lid and keyboard 'open' corners to see there are powerful magnets to keep the Alienware x14 laptop lid closed. Have just tested my Alienware 17 R5 and all open corners have powerful magnets to keep lid closed during transit.
My 15.6" ASUS X540SA laptop lid easily opens when carried around, there is nothing to try and keep lid shut. Users are expected to carry/hold ASUS laptop with hinge part at the top.
Thanks everyone, ill give it a crack. But as I said, perhaps it's the product design as ive tested some models they do open easily some dont. So I raised a replacement warranty, new one is coming in the next few days. ILl give it a test, if another brand new fresh from the box behaves similarly, then i'd conclude it as a Product design. Reason behind it ? I dont know
Hi All, just a bit of an update to everyone. So Dell, has replaced it with a brand new ( they said ) laptop. Although when I got it i saw traces off Demo apps in there, so really unsure anymore. The replacement came without the issue that I had previously, all looking ok. Until i found a brand new issue ( not major, but still irritating ), which is the mousepad. On the old faulty one, it was solid plate. This replacement is a bit wobbly and loose, i could easily hear a "tick" sound just on a slight touch meaning its a bit loose.
I can conclude that the build / workmanship of Dell ( unsure if all products ) but definitely the past 2 devies i've received is really not up to the that level you'd think you get with premium price and level. I am a bit tired of replacing it and waiting again, etc. etc.
in all honesty, I dont know if we could call this Thread to be resolved. I'd like to see more inputs from people out there, as i think the only solution to me is either keep sending a new replacement that doesnt have all the issues ( previous or new ), until i get bored or completely refund ( which i dont want, cause in all honesty i like this product ).

Hi @RamaIndrawan ,
Try asking for a touchpad repair which they tighten the touchpad down so its not really a hardware repair but a hardware cosmetic issue.
