these are the steps I took to fix my issue and I am not sure which step fixed it

1) if you have optimums disabled, enable it

2) use DDU and remove all the drivers manually

3) Download the rtx 3080 desktop drivers and select advanced and check clean install

4) once it is done installing use DDU to clean the drivers

5) Install GeForce experience and let it download the drivers for the rtx 3080 laptop then select advanced then check clean install

6) disable optimums in bios, in nvidia control panel make sure the power is selected as prefer maximum performance then test.

7)) Windows 11 power setting in the settings apps it was as balanced I have changed it to Best Performance

for some reason now the mux switch is working as it should games and video editing is indeed faster when the laptop is in discrete mode/advanced optimums disabled the way it should be I hope this helps since there is zero info online on the issue.

Thank you

Forgot to state when updating the IGPU or the Nvidia GPU drivers hybrid graphics/Advanced Optimus in BIOS must be enabled otherwise the laptop will blue screen during the graphics driver update, is that normal?

Everything you said I’m having the same issues

also want To add that when i disable Optimus the netflix app doesn’t work it will load but I try to watch a movie it freezes. Then when I Re enable Optimus it works fine also when it’s disabled I get Random crashes when using Firefox or Crome and yet again when it’s enabled everything works fine please Dell fix this.

@Shandidy @Eredita

Happy new years!
Its been a while since ive been on Dell but heres what I recommend:

I would try to update the BIOS to the latest version to see if that fixes the issue but I would also set the settings in NIVIDA control panel to these:

  • Image Sharpening : Turn it OFF.
  • Ambient Occlusion : Performance or OFF if the game isn't DX12
  • Anisotropic filtering : Application-controlled
  • Antialiasing – FXAA : ON
  • – Gamma correction : ON
  • – Mode : Application-controlled
  • – Transparency : OFF
  • Background Application Max Frame Rate : 20FPS
  • CUDA – GPUs : ALL
  • DSR – Factors : OFF
  • Low latency mode : ON or ULTRA
  • Max frame Rate : ON, Set the average of FPS according to your monitor refresh-rate
  • Multi-Frame Sampled AA (MFAA) : ON
  • OpenGL rendering GPU : Select your GPU
  • Power management mode : ADAPTIVE
  • Shader cache : ON
  • Texture filtering – Anisotropic sample options : ON
  • – Negative LOD bias : CLAMP
  • – Quality : HIGH PREFORMANCE
  • – Trilinear optimization : ON
  • Threaded optimization : ON
  • Triple buffering : ON
  • Vertical sync : ON
  • Virtual Reality pre-rendered frames : 1

Laptop is on the Latest BIOS V 1.5.0, I have tried the above steps before with no avail this seems to be a buggy bios as I have to enable optimus to gain more performance which defeats the purpose of having it in the 1st plan, also wont be able to update display drivers if optimus/hybrid graphics is disabled, also one user with an x17 confirmed that he is having the same issues as I do

glad that i am not the only one and use I ended up enabling optimus and all the issues goes away, so It looks like a buggy Bios, since disabling hybrid graphics decreases performance and I get blue screen trying to update the nvidia drivers, in order for my to install the drivers without bluescreen is to enable optimus/hybrid graphics which is really wired, also games that uses dlss works fine with optimus on i get 60 plus, optimus off i get 28fps

Have you done a fresh install of the BIOS? even if its the same version maybe a fresh one can help.

I have the exact same problem as with everyone else. For months, i've disabled optimus through BIOS and thought that i have great performance. Until marvel avengers that is. It is a graphically demanding game and playing it with optimus disabled, the frames were laggy, tried everything and by chance, i read that drivers can only be installed with optimus enabled.

And so i did but i forgot to disable optimus after the update and ran marvel avengers. I was pleasantly surprised that it was buttery smooth leading me to think that it was a driver issue all along. The day came where i realised, dang, i did not disable optimus. Long story short, i did and everything else slows down. RDR2 was bad, GTA V was bad along with periodic crashes and random blue screen of death happening up to 10 times a day, OMG, it made me wonder why i blew my money on this supposedly top of the line gaming laptop.

I just continue to run my games with optimus enabled and accepted whatever the piece of garbage could do. Until i chanced upon this site. I wasnt the only one, seeing that so many members had the same issue. The laptop is great, until you had optimus disabled....

Im going to try out Shandidy's method and see if it works. In the meantime, anyone else tried it yet?

Dell should seriously fix this, given the fact that R2 is already in the pipeline and rolling out.

Thanks everyone!!!

Good Morning,

Just to add that the above steps did not fix my issue, after I gave up, I disabled hybrid graphics in BIOS and I bought recently watch dogs legion on sale, once I ran it I was getting really good frames, then I exit the game and ran any game after it, like SOTTR and boom I am getting 70 fps plus at 4k, but if I rebooted the machine and ran SOTTR I get 30 fps, then I closed the game launched watch dogs legion played it for a 2 minutes closed then launch SOTTR and it works 70 fps, I think at this point the mux implementation is really buggy so my only fix, I launch watch dogs legion even if I do not want to play it, launch it start a mission close it and play anything after it and It works every time once watch dogs legion is launched first wired I know but it works after.

Hi  buddy,

gosh....that really sounds painful. So it didnt solve the problems with your steps. Jeez...now im wondering why i bought this. Been a Razer user for years, it has its issues....but never like this. This almost sounds like nobody know where and how to start fixing it. In any case, i think it seems like everyones simply just living with it.

Oh man...i just really feel so upset, haha

Same here! I recently received my x17 R1 (i9, 3080, 4k 120hz, 2TB) and it came with the new BIOS. I disabled Advanced Optimus then installed RDR2 with Hardware Unboxed's optimized settings and I play in 4K using the native screen. It was . I enabled optimus again, played RDR2 and bam! Smooth gameplay. I then disabled optimus again, played RDR2 and it was great. The next day, I fired up RDR2 again and the performance is again. Back to enabling optimus, the gameplay is great again. The only downside with optimus enabled with RDR2 is that I lose HDR option in the settings.

This issue has been resolved on the latest NVidia drivers update it resolved the performance issues, do install the drivers enable hybrid graphics in bios then after the drivers get updated switch hybrid graphics off in bios but since a driver update resolved the issue then i was not imagining thing it was indeed a bug

also forgot to state this only resolves performance issues only, the NIS driver feature and the new DLDSR not enabled on laptops GPU only desktops which is ridiculous just to save everyone time

Hey there, I just bought a new Dell G15 and after the setup while restarting it I disabled optimus, this caused my laptop to enter a black screen state and it only got back normal after I reset BIOS. I am downloading the new Drivers for Nvidia currently(RTX 3050). Should I disable optimus after the driver update? And also I had changed Refresh rate from 120-60Hz does it affect too?

I basically bought this laptop because of advanced optimus. I am checking for BIOS updates too.
