x17 R1, latest driver update December 12, 2022
Alienware x17 R1
Hi Guys,
I would like to know if this happened from others Alienware x17 R1 user regarding updating the Nvidia driver using the downloadable driver from Dell.com?
1. Alienware support assist notify me to update and install Alienware Command Center Application and the Alienware x15/x17 R1 System BIOS - 1.15.0. Immediately check my bios version and find that I got the older version, so I downloaded the latest version included the ACC application.
2. Then from the Dell.com site I saw the latest driver for my video card which had a release date of Dec 12, 2022.
NVIDIA-GeForce-RTX-3050-Ti-3060-3070-3080-Graphics_Y8X8D_WIN_31.0.15.1766_A05 3. Before I install the latest version with a file name (NVIDIA-GeForce-RTX-3050-Ti-3060-3070-3080-Graphics_Y8X8D_WIN_31.0.15.1766_A05) I go to the Nvidia Control Panel to check the version of my driver. See the photos below with a driver version of 526.47.
4. After installation of the latest driver, I directly check the new version of my driver and I stumble from a different version and worse the version is older (517.66). see photos below.
Is anyone can explain to me how come the newer version had a lower driver version. Hope someone can enlighten me.
Thanks

Hi @LeWo welcome to this free user-to-user Alienware laptop discussion forum.
Dell Alienware laptops have discrete GPU variants of the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3000 series and therefore different driver versions.
Consumer's due diligence should be undertaken before picking up a NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3000 gaming laptop. Unless the vendor explicitly lists the GPU variant inside the laptop, consumers have no way of finding out which variant they've gotten until they've bought the device.

Thanks for response, I'm fully aware of what kind of variant or component I purchased, and all the drivers came from the Dell site are certified driver for specific notebook model that's why then can detect what kind of video card you're using. I only download the update from Dell and if you look closely from the previous update which dated July 8, 2022 that's the exact driver I'm using with the driver version 526.47 (NVIDIA-GeForce-RTX-3050-Ti-3060-3070-3080-Graphics_XTRD4_WIN_30.0.15.1298_A04.EXE).
