Avamar - Bulk Delete of Backup Jobs

We currently know that you can delete individual jobs in the Avamar Manager (Backup Management).

Is there a way to delete all the jobs based on a date?  For instance if we are reaching thresholds on the Grid and we want to delete two weeks of the oldest backups (retention period is no up yet), is there a way to do this from either the GUI or command line?

We are on Avamar 5, Gen3

Thanks...

By chance would you be willing to share your script?  We are having the same scenerio and have been going back and forth for weeks now.  In the meantime, we have now reached 90%.

Avamar Engineering created a script especially for this.  You can read more about it in the following article

KB 333438 - How to use the Avamar modify-snapups utility to delete or modify the expiration of backups

To learn more about Avamar capacity concepts and how to manage storage capacity, start here

KB 457224  - (Customer) Avamar User and OS Capacity Management

Hi, Dan;

I know there is one solution with special script for the Bulk delete or modify snapups, but this is restrict to EMC Support only due to potential risk.

I suggest you may contact EMC Avamar Support to help with your issue.

This isn't quite accurate.

The script is generally available and we explain how to use it in the customer facing article KB 333438

The script doesn't actually delete or modify any backups, it will generate another script with a series of changes (backup deletions or modifications) based on the requirements defined by the user.

Once the user has reviewed the generated script and is happy with those proposed changes they can execute it to enact the changes. There is only a risk if you don't properly review the script before running it.

Important to note is that the script acts on existing backups.  If dealing with a persistent capacity issue the user will need to address the root cause of the capacity issue.  More on that in KB 457224
