This message appears if filesystem case sensitivity has been enabled on Windows servers and the client finds two files with the same name that differ only in case.

Do you know why case sensitivity was enabled? This is not a typical configuration.

Hi Ian,

Thanks for the reply, i checked there is no case sensitivity configured on the server. As i have tried creating a file for exmaple- test.txt and Test.txt.it wont allow me to create.

Also this error appeared while copying data from the only one SAN Disk drive. It is a Physical Machine.

As far as I know, this duplicate entry message only appears in the context of case sensitivity in Windows. Even if case sensitivity is enabled for the filesystem, standard Windows applications generally do not let you create two files that differ only in case, so a test that tries to create files that differ only in case using something like Explorer is not conclusive.

Case sensitivity is enabled globally by setting the following DWORD registry value to 0:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\kernel\ObCaseInsensitive

I'd recommend that you check this registry value.

It's also possible to enable case sensitivity on a directory-by-directory basis as described here:

https://blogs.msdn.microsoft.com/commandline/2018/02/28/per-directory-case-sensitivity-and-wsl/

When you say SAN Disk drive, is this storage shared between Windows and Linux / UNIX systems?

There is a way to force the client to report the filenames of the duplicates but it uses some internal flags that are potentially dangerous if misused. If you'd like help tracking down what files may be causing this issue, I'd recommend working with support. If you open a service request, please refer them to KB482003 and they should be able to help you out.

Of course if you don't have case sensitivity set, Engage EMC for a hotfix. We've seen this in 7.4 -> 19.4 for servers with case insensitivity enabled.
