Exchange 2010 and Avamar GLR problem

Hi,

I am trying to GLR Exchange 2010 email message, but, when browsing I got an error which is shown in an attached picture. What I am doing wrong?

Avamar restore 1.jpg

My environment is:

Avamar Server and Client 6.0.1.66

Exchange 2010 sp2 servers in DAG environment

Windows 2008 R2 SP1

I followed an official EMC documentation on setting up Exchange VSS backups, and restores also.

Hello,

This issue is apparently a problem which appears when amount of data in Exchange are too high.

I've got the same problem few month ago with same versions as you.

This problem is "only" a timeout of mapi componement of Avamar Exchange GLR plugin.

I can suggest you two options:

the first one is to contact the EMC Avamar support team and this is the best option if you don't want to upgrade your avamar and agent version.

They had solved my issue by installing Avamar Exchange GLR 6.0.1.66 and replacing theses exe files located under "C:\Program Files\avs\bin".

avexchglrsvcPS.dll

avexchglrsvc.exe

avexchglr.exe

avmapi.exe

The second option is to upgrade your appliance (or grid) to lastest 6.1 version. Again open a call with Avamar Support Team to do that.

Since that i've never got this problem again.

To end this, don't worry about your backup and GLR information. Avamar got all the things he need to restore after the upgrade or patch. The pain thing is currently you can only restoring the database entirely under RDB and search emails with exchange regular tools with is not really easy and consume time.

Hello,

No problem for the help.

One more thing. The upgrade of the Avamar server is actually the best choice for many reasons, and for sure it will correct your problem but you need to take care about theses things:

- If you have SQL Server in your company, the methods have changed between 6.0 and 6.1 version. Especially when backing up your SQL server transaction logs. (read the manual for that point)

- Has maybe you know you should reinstall under all systems the avamar windows agent and the application agent associated. It will consume your time and downtime regarding systems concerned.

- If you use the avamar vmware proxy in 6.0.65 version it could'nt be upgraded 1:1,  currently it works like this:

1 virtual machine for linux servers

       and

1 virtual machine for windows systems.

The new version is different because it's not necessary to keep both. You need only one as it can handle windows and linux servers backup jobs. For that, you should install the newest. Take care about the method and history about backup to keep.

Update me if you want.

Regards,

Jean-Christophe
