GEN4S RAID pairs

Been trying to locate the RAID pairings in the GEN4S hardware. Please help.

Have only found so far, without details:

12x3.5" 2TB SATA in 6 RAID1 pairs

Would like to find the level of detail as in previous GEN4 hardware, noted as :

RAID1 pairs:

        Pair 1: Disks 0 & 3

        Pair 2: Disks 1 & 4

        Pair 3: Disks 2 & 5

        Pair 4: Disks 6 & 9

        Pair 5: Disks 7 & 10

        Pair 6: Disks 8 & 11

There is support for up to two internal hard disk drive slots referenced as HDD12 & HDD13

ADS Gen4 will use 1 - 100GB SLC SSD Drive in internal slot 12.

Thanks!

My question was answered by Support. They sent me part of a document screen shot.

The RAID1 pairings are the same as Gen4 and the Gen4S but the physical location (disk number assignments) in the M2400 nodes are different.

Thanks!

Dotty

Hello,

I can see a detailed document which describes RAID groups on GEN4s hardware on EMC support website. But this document is only for EMC internal use and I cannot share it here. I would suggest you to open a Service Request with EMC support to get this information.

Hey,

If you have EMC partner permission, you will find a related document from EMC online support. If no, please contact EMC support for assistance.

But, you can refer to the thread to understand the information of Gen4S hardware.  https://community.emc.com/message/781330

Hope this helps.

Thank you, Pawan. I have opened an SR to see if I get a more direct answer.

Thank you, Leo. I do have partner access and this diagram is part of what led to see if the disks were paired the same or not as the GEN4 hardware - since it changed. They do not identify the pairing although they do show the differences.

Hey Dot,

Above picture is for your reference. If you have EMC partner permission, you will be able to find a document from EMC online support. The document contained location of the physical disk and RAID groups.

Please help to mark my answer as "correct/helpful answer" if you think they are helpful. Thanks.

Hi Team,

I would like to know the number of Disk Drives, Disk Drive Capacity and RAID Configuration in Avamar Gen 4S hardware. can anyone please direct me to EMC Document where I can find these details.

As per my understanding

M2400 (7.8TB) –              12 x 2TB (RAID1)

M1200 (3.9TB) –              6 x 2TB (RAID1)

M600 (2TB)        –              6 x1TB (RAID1)

S2400 (7.8TB)   -              8 x 2TB (RAID 6)

Please correct me, If I am wrong.

Thanks & Regards,

Hello Raghuram,

The information about Gen4S hardware which includes RAID groups information is available only for EMC support.

Please contact EMC support for further information.

The document we used that has a lot of information is the "EMC Avamar Data Store Gen4S Comprehensive Reference Guide" listed as P/N 300-999-652 Rev 02.

Although I do have Partner level access I could not reach the document link I was sent and had to open an SR to get the RAID1 configuration of the disks. It takes a while because it's a low priority, but you do get the information from Support.

I’m pretty sure they are the same as the Gen4’s shown here.
