datasets mentioned in v_activities_2 but not in v_datasets

I am being tasked to work on Avamar data, at the database level.

I am trying to understand where the value of the dataset field of the v_activities_2 view is coming from.

Sometimes, I see values that don’t have a corresponding entry in the v_datasets view.

I understand the concept of “on demand” backups. When those backup runs, the dataset is not saved as a permanent object, and I can see the value “/Client On-Demand Data” being used for the v_activities_2.dataset value. This is fine.

I am not too clear about other values I see in v_activities_2.dataset

For example, I see many different values starting with //?/  (I’m thinking those might be related to restore activities)

I also see “/All Local Drives” or something like “/C_and_G_Drive_Only”  or “/W2k8_SystemState” which I don’t see in v_datasets either though it’s always possible that it was initially the name of a user created dataset that got deleted or renamed.

I do not have access to the people who have configured the avamar server so I can’t ask where those datasets come from.

Any idea what kind of activities can create those "special" datasets/dataset names ?
