Does iSCSI built-in with CX4-120 ?
Hi,
We are going to replace our CX3 SAN to a CX4-120. My supervisor says that he would like to consider iSCSI in the near future (1 to 2 years' time).
He would like to know does iSCSI is built in or we have to purchase it as Add-In.
If we consider using iSCSI in the future, is there any benefit if we purchase a CX4-240 instead of CX4-120 SAN.
Thanks

Dear Jim,
I have a review of the quotation from vendor and found that it states "4x FC4 Ports + 4x iSCSI ports" but from the specification sheet, it says there are 3 base SP configurstions. One of them is "2 8Gb/s Fibre Channel optical ports + 2 10G/s Ethernet iSCSI optical ports". I think it is what we are after.
Should we talk to the vendor to make sure that the ports are of this configuration ?
Thanks

Tony here is an excerpt from the Open systems config guide...
CX4 series storage-system SP ports
The CX4 series storage-system SP ports for each storage-system type depend on the type and number of UltraFlex I/O
modules installed in the storage system.
Each storage system has at least one of the following 4 Gb or 8 Gb Fibre Channel I/O modules (4 Gb Fibre or 8 Gb Fibre)
And one 1GbE iSCSI I/O module (1GbE iSCSI/TOE) or one 10 GbE iSCSI I/O modules (10 GbE iSCSI):
• 4 Gb or 8 Gb Fibre with 1 Fibre back-end (BE) ports and 2 Fibre front-end (FE) ports (CX4-120)
• 4 Gb or 8 Gb Fibre with 2 Fibre back-end (BE) ports and 2 Fibre front-end (FE) ports (CX4-240, CX4-480, CX4-960)
• 4 Gb Fibre with 4 Fibre back-end (BE) ports (only for CX4-960 with the expansion option, model CX4-960EXPSW
and model CX4-960EXPIO).
• 4 Gb or 8 Gb Fibre with 4 Fibre front-end (FE) ports (optional for all systems)
• 1 GbE iSCSI or 10 GbE iSCSI with two iSCSI front-end (FE) ports (all systems)
Note: The 8 Gb Fibre Channel I/O modules require FLARE 04.28.000.5.7xx or later. The 10 GbE iSCSI I/O modules
required FLARE 04.29.000.5.0xx or later.
New arrays would ship with R30 and 8Gb FC modules and 10GB iSCSI modules.
How you option the arrays is up to you.

Tony,
All CX4 series arrays have both iSCSI and FC attachments available by default.
The various models can support different amounts of iSCSI and FC, but there are a minimum of 2 ISCSI ports available on each array SP.

DELL says that we have to pay extra cost if we opt for the 10GB iSCSI and they will send us the one with 1GB iSCSI only.
Thanks
