Host OS version not updated in EMC Celerra NX4?

Hi all,

we have EMC Celerra NX4. In that we created LUNs and Mounted into four VMware ESXi Servers through Fibre Channel connectivity. At first all 4 hosts are VMware ESXi 4.1.0. Now i upgraded those four hosts to ESXi 5.0. Still Host OS is VMware ESXi 4.1.0 showed. How can i Update the Host OS information?

Hi vipin and all,

Now Host OS version is updated in Storage side. I did the followings as per EMC TSE's suggestion,

Steps to perform:

  1. Disable agent push feature in for registration in ESXi.
  • In the vSphere Client, select the host in the inventory.
  • Click the Configuration tab and click Advanced Settings under Software.
  • Select Disk in the left panel and scroll to Disk.EnableNaviReg.
  • Change the default value to "0".
  • Reboot the ESXi host for the changes to take effect.

  2.  De-register the host initiators in connectivity status tab.

  3.  Restart the Management Server.

Note: This procedure must be performed on both storage processors to be effective!

  • Open a new browser window.
  • Type in the address bar-> http: // xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx/setup
  • Where xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx is the IP address of the storage processor (SP A).
  • When the screen has loaded, type in the Username and Password used to access Navisphere/Unisphere User Interface (UI).
  • Once logged in, click the "Restart Management Server" button.
  • Once the page has loaded, click the "Yes" option, and then click "Submit."
  • Follow the same steps for SP B.

4.  Re-enable the Disk.EnableNaviReg = 1

  1. Try to register the host initiators back.

Please click "Update now" for some times in Storage Array. Now OS version will updated.

Note: ESXi host reboot causes downtime. In my environment i moved virtual machines to another hosts through vmotion.

Hope  'update all hosts'  will help you.

Hi,

I guess, as ESXi version is upgraded to 5.0..it is not a fresh install..hence storage group properties > hosts would not

reflect VMware ESXi 5.0.

If you have any ESXi 5.0 (full installation not upgrade from previous version) host available, try connecting with the array and cross-verify..it should reflect as ESXi 5.0.

Thanks

Ernes Taljic , I understand he already rebooted the storage. I don't feel this will make any change here.

He rebooted the SP's? Ok, didn't know that. You are correct, in that case this will not make a difference.

Did you try restarting the management service on the SPs? http:// /setup

Restarting the management service does not cause a downtime and can be done any time.

As you have already tried rebooting storage and server, I would suggest a LiveChat with EMC. Hope the experts here will give some suggestions in the mean time.
