Upgrade RAM in CX3-20

Hey guys,

I wanted to upgrade my RAM in my CX3-20, the current memory is standard micron mt18HTF12872Y, can i just purchase 4 more 1GB sticks and install?

no, memory is not upgraded on SPs ..unless you upgrade to CX4 with new SPs.

Ack, ok... that kind of sucks, though I do want to upgrade to a CX4.  Got one more question coming your way, i'll make it a new post though not to mix things up.

well technically there is nothing stoping you putting more ram in i've tried this.

but you will end up with an error like this.

ErrorCode: 0x00000165

ErrorDesc:

FRU: Motherboard | Memory

Device: RAM

Description: Illegal Memory Size Error!

Rev: 01.59

Expected Memory Size: 2048 MB

Actual Memory Size: 8192 MB

the only way to get the storage processor to boot from that point is to enter a diag password and manually force it to boot, which for a production system is completely out of the question.

i'm not even sure it can use the extra ram once installed but here's a screenshot showing it's detected.
