Exception when configuring newly deployed DSM Virtual Appliance

dsm error.png

We are getting above error at the last stage of WEB UI config session (v 2019.1.20.30). We tried both Internal Database and MySQL. Both give the same error. What could be the reason? Customer previously had 2016 installed but it crashed. I can no longer locate the download link for 2016

Seen this after updating an Appliance some time ago. Dell Support refuses to help and suggest to do a fresh re-install

I have to install a fresh 2019R1.20 tomorrow for a customer. I'll report.

Our ESXi is 5.5 and not 6.0 as required by the appliance. During deployment, Step 20 mentioned in below URL probably was not displayed (Customize Template).

https://www.dell.com/support/manuals/us/en/04/storage-sc9000/dsm-2019-ig/deploy-the-virtual-appliance?guid=guid-7eddd3b4-8e69-40f5-b16f-c515a7ad5a32&lang=en-us

I had to configure IP settings from console using config/dell user/pass.

Anyone tried deploying the appliance under Xen or Virtualbox?

I deployed the current 2019R1.20 today and doesnt run into the problem you get. For sure i deployed it on a 6.7 Host and not something stone aged.

But.... the static IP configuration during the OVF deployment doestn work and for the FIRST boot the VA used DHCP (customer have on in that subnet).  After running through the wizard and the necessary reboot of the collector i lost the connection  becaus NOW the VA use the static IP which was configured during the deployment.

I have seen these kind of problem when using CentOS or Debian VMs.

Also... when login into the console you will get TONs of debug messages and SQL related stuff (i use the embedded DB).

I can't claim expertise with Compellent, but I did contact their support team to see what they could contribute. As Joerg had mentioned, they did recommend a reinstall. However, they also said that if you wanted to create a case with them, they may be able to get into a remote session with you, SSH into the system, and potentially get a better idea of what's happening.

Thanks. Already contacted support and received the 2016 VA download link.

I am getting the similar errors with DSM 2019 R1 and DSM 2020 R1. I am using MySQL 8.0.21 for DB. There is no way to get to the logs on the virtual appliance to troubleshoot this further. Anybody seeing similar issues?
