Principal Switch

I have 2 switch that is trunked each other (edge and core). The core switch have the lowest firmware compared to the edge switch. Is there anything wrong with the "principal" and "local" switch setting from the edge switch? Why the principal and the local switch is a different switch from the edge switch?

HELP ME!!!

That all looks normal to me.

You will only ever have 1 principal switch per fabric (VSAN) and it is best practice to have the core switch as the principal (which you do).

The principal switch is elected by a priority setting, or if every switch in the fabric has the same priority, then the switch with the lowest WWN will be elected as principal.

The firmware release operating on the switch has no bearing on whether it will be principal or not.

Glen.

Mudzaffar,

As mentioned above also every fabric has a single principal switch at one time. Untill it dont fail and new one is elected or manually changed. In your fabric ( looking the outputs ) seems the Core switch is Principal switch.

Now when you logged in the Edge Switch and ran 'show fcdomain domain-list' --> edge switch is the local switch and Core is principal switch.

0xe3(227)    20:01:00:0d:ec:63:ee:81 [Principal]

0x62(98)    20:01:00:0d:ec:8d:39:41

0x0c(12)    20:01:00:0d:ec:a7:2b:c1

0x0e(14)    20:01:00:05:73:be:36:01 [Local]

Now again when you logged in the Core switch and ran 'show fcdomain domain-list' --> core switch is only the principal switch but here local switch is also the Core switch.

0x03(3)    20:03:00:0d:ec:63:ee:81 [Local] [Principal]

In this comands output Local switch means the swich from where you ran comand and so when your comparing both the outputs it is showing different. It is not an error this only helps you to show which is local switch and its good .
