Get an old server back onto support?

Hi,

I have a client with an old SC1425 rack server, probably generation 3-6, it's running Windows 2003 server.  It's running OK for now, it's quite noisy and my customer is concerned it's going to blow up any moment.  The customer is also paranoid now if we stop it, it won't restart.

I asked on another thread and someone said if it's a Dell, just ask support.

So, what can I do?  The customer would at least like it back to factory noise level so probably replace all the cooling fan and power supply.  I think it would be pertinent to clone the hard drive because it has >10 years records for the company.  But after that, I don't think there's much more to do.  Any thoughts and what price range are we talking for an old server not under support for now?  Chris

If there's no backup, whatever data is on the server should be copied immediately to at least two verified, independent backups on separate external drives.

The server should then be replaced, not repaired.  It's on the order of 12 years old -- no manufacturer will support hardware that old.  And if it's really running Server 2003 for a company, the fact that that OS has been unsupported since 2015 could very well jeopardize the company in a legal sense -- if what's on the server is in any way confidential, the liability to the company is serious.
