$ coupon code expired earlier than it is supposed to be

Can someone from Dell explain to me why when the coupon code clearly says EXPIRES 5/26/2014, it means expires 12 AM 5/26/2014 and not 11:59PM 5/26/2014 (according to Dell Customer care)?

Context:

I bought a tablet from Dell using an Amex Dell Gift card but it turned out to be defective so I returned it . At first Dell did not refund the Amex Dell Gift card because it did not show up on the order, but eventually they issued a coupon code to me with an expiration date of 5/26/2014. On 5/16/2014 9:00AM PST I tried to buy something with this coupon code and I got an error message telling me it has expired. I have tried contacting the customer service - only to get bounced around without resolution. After filing a I was contacted by a Dell Resolution Agent that basically told me the expiration date means I need to use the code BEFORE 5/26/2014. Nowhere in the coupon email does it mentions that. Not only that, but my original Amex Dell Certificate had 9 months expiration date. How did I go from 9 month validity to 3 months?

Here's the original terms from the email I received from Dell

Good question to ask. I recently purchased two Dell monitors and I invested a good amount of time trying to get a working coupon to work!  I am learning my way around so if I should come upon the answer I will get back to you! I have found that the "assumption" that there is an "explanation" is often the reason for the "frustration"!!
