DD VTL supports ETERNUS CS Link for z/OS
Hey folks,
quick question here as google could not help me.
Is a DataDomain compatible with "ETERNUS CS Link for z/OS"?
I'm not much of a mainframe guy. I have a costumer who is thinking about putting a DD as VTL behind his mainframe. And now the question came up if the DD supports the software "CS link".
Thanks
JJ

No. It cannot use DD. If you want DD, they have to use DLm as a gateway.
The Eternus CS Link for z/OS is a tape emulation system for mainframe tape that connects to Eternus CS8000 virtual tape systems. They are a product from Fujitsu, which is trying to get a footprint in USA market for the last 15-20 years.
Just go with the DLm!

Ok, I see.
So if he wants to use "CS Link for z/OS" he also needs to use a system from Fujitsu (some ETERNUS system) I suppose?!

Yes, CS Link is mandatory for Fujitsu Eternus CS. However if you use DD with DLm you cannot use CS Link.
