Deleting old data from /ddvar

Are there DataDomain commands to clear out old data from /ddvar rather than having to mount it to a server and delete the files as root?

For example

to allow for a proactive clean up of support bundle, core files and even software release rpm files used for DDOS upgrade software.

LindaNi,

This folder can be cleaned up in bash mode but we would need to do it for you.  The easiest way to clean /ddvar is to just mount it and clean it out (as sysadmin, not root).  Please let me know if I can be of any further assistance.

Best Regards,

Patrick

Thank you for the quick reply.  Just a little more help needed please.

The files are listed as owned by root in the various directories eg.

-rw-r--r-- 1 root 50   468965760 2013-12-13 14:12 support-bundle.tar.gz.2

-rw-r--r-- 1 root 50   441400284 2014-01-17 11:43 support-bundle.tar.gz.1

-rw-r--r-- 1 root 50   504204365 2014-04-21 10:14 support-bundle.tar.gz

-rw-r--r-- 1 root 50    39859986 2013-09-20 16:54 ddfs.core.24620.1379710480.mini.gz

-rw-r--r-- 1 root 50    47734320 2013-10-11 10:19 ddfs.core.11995.1381501198.mini.gz

-rw-r--r-- 1 root 50    38693992 2013-10-24 13:44 ddfs.core.26715.1382636645.mini.gz

-rw-r--r-- 1 root 50   168051643 2013-11-20 15:03 ddfs.core.14281.1384977820.mini.gz

and these permissions prevent the SysAdmin of the DataDomain from deleting the files.

We have distinct separation of duties and the Storage Administrator although having full authority on the DataDomain does not have the necessary permission levels on a server, which was why I asked whether there were DataDomain commands he could enter from the Command Line to delete these obsolete files. Are there housekeeping type commands available on the DataDomain? From your answer I suspect not. Could or Should there be? I think yes.

LindaNi,

Email me directly at patrick.betts@emc.com and I'll WebEx with you to address this issue.  Thanks in advance.

Patrick

EDIT:  Per our email discussion I have found that DDOS 5.5 will include the following two CLI commands:

support bundle delete

support coredump delete

However, there is no current support for these commands to be ran from the GUI.  I am creating an RFE for this functionality to be added.  Please let me know if I can be of any further assistance to you.

Best Regards,

Patrick

Do you by chance know if this RFE ever got anywhere? It would be very nice to have this functionality inside the gui.

If you have many of these errors, this indicates that you are having file system panics and/or other issues. It is very important to open a case with support to determine reviews why your Data Domain is having these issues.
