Dell Backup & Recovery Tool

For Inspiron laptop Windows 8.1 can we create full system image backups on either of three partitioned external hdd through Dell Backup and Recovery Tool or dedicated single drive without any partition required.

Is this Recovery system image backup similar to that obtained through Windows 8.1 System Image backups & serve same purpose when required to restore system.
