R210 2 - OMSA Failing on Windows Server 2012 R2
Dell OSMA 9.5.0.4063 is failing on our R210 2 server.
The DSM SA Data Manager service fails to start and we're getting this error from the event viewer.
What can we do to resolve this as we need to check hardware integrity remotely.
Thanks

Hello @DaveB-Opt,
It's good to see you back in the Dell Community.
Ok, so is this a fresh install of OMSA or is it an OMSA which have been running for some time? Can you please let me know what happens by uninstalling / reinstalling the software?
What it seems to me worth to check is that when you look for firmware, drivers or software for the R210 II you can see the OMSA versions recommended are 8.4 and 8.5: Dell OpenManage Server Administrator Managed Node(windows - 64 bit), v8.5
Can you try to use this older version of OMSA?
Regards.

@DiegoLopez That appears to be the case for 2008 R2. He's running 2012 R2. OMSA 9.5 notes reflect that it is compatible with both 2012 R2 and R210 II.
If this is an in-place OMSA upgrade, I'd recommend uninstalling the previous version first, then installing the latest. I've never had good luck with in-place OMSA upgrades.

Hi there,
Thanks for coming back to me.
This is on Server 2012 R2 which was installed from fresh (not an in-place upgrade).
I've also installed the OMSA from fresh. I have also tried removing and re-installing (after rebooting)
Thanks

Hi there,
Thanks for coming back to me.
So I should remove 9.5 and install 9.4?
(I did install 9.5 from scratch - it wasn't an in place upgrade)
Thanks

Hello again @DaveB-Opt
Please, let me know if anything on this article helps you to find the root error. All services which should be working are listed and the suggestion is to restart them. Please, check this article and let us know: Troubleshooting for OpenManage Server Administrator if not opening, updating, or showing correct information.

Hi,
9.4 has been installed from fresh and we're getting the same issue.
We can login, but can't check the integrity of anything.

Hello again @DaveB-Opt,
Ok, so there are a bunch of reasons why you are getting this error.
First, the problem could be OMSA not being able to communicate with the hardware. This can happen if you are using old firmware and driver versions. I recommend you to make sure you are running the latest firmware versions for BIOS, iDRAC, Lifecycle Controller, and PERC driver and firmware.
Another reason can be the DSM SA Data Manager service stop is a security program stopping it. Some programs will let you create an exception for the service.
Another option is a corrupted OMSA installation. Please, one more time, uninstall OMSA. After uninstall please check there are no files present in C:\Program Files\Dell\SysMgt , also check in registry HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE->Dell Computer Corporation no entries are present . If anything is present please delete and reboot server. Then make sure to download a fresh installation file of the newest version. and when you reinstal OMSA, use the Administrator account with full local admin rights.
Regards.

Hello @DaveB-Opt,
This makes me believe there is an OS problem that caused OMSA not working correctly. At this point I could only suggest to escalate to our internal software team, both for checking OS and OMSA. But this team will only take the case if the server is still in warranty and the OS is an OEM license (OS license bought with the server). Is the server still under warranty?
If you need to use OMSA you will need to reinstall the OS or use any alternative method. For example, the bootable Dell Support Live Image is a Live CD where OpenManage Server Administrator 9.1 is pre-installed: Dell PowerEdge: How to download and use the Support Live Image?
Sorry for not being able to offer you any more suggestions.
Regards.

Hello Ed,
I'm sorry to see OMSA is not working. Can you describe the issue it is giving you and any steps you have tried already?
For first steps I can advise to uninstall OMSA, reboot, then install (as Administrator) OMSA and the patch and check the results.
OMSA 9.3 https://dell.to/3ujusHu
Patch 9.3.0.2 https://dell.to/3fioTow
