PERC H700 driver out of date, but can't locate newer version?

Two questions

1) I have an R710, with OMSA. In OMSA under Storage->PERC H700 integrated it shows

Caution: Driver version is out of date.

Firmware Version 12.10.7-0001
Driver Version 4.17.02.64
Minimum Required Driver Version 4.31.01.32

However when i search the dell site using this R710's service tag, the latest driver available is the one I already have installed (i.e. 4.17.02.64 - release date 6 Dec 2011).

Where can i source a newer driver?

2). I have this server configured in OME using the OMSA Agent. The iDRAC is the express version.

In my manage devices list, i can see the yellow warning against this server, regarding the out of date driver.

However if i look at system update-> non compliant servers, my server is not listed.

Is it not possible to use OME to update windows drivers using the OMSA agent, or am I supposed to install it manually? If it is possible, what am i doing wrong?

TIA

Mark

Thank you for the service tag.

You have the latest driver for 2008R2. The driver version OpenManage is wanting installed is for 2008x64. If you are running 2008R2 and not 2008x64 then make sure you are using the correct version of OMSA for your server. The latest version of OMSA compatible with your server will be listed under the systems management section of the download page. If you are already running that version then I suggest uninstall/reinstall of OMSA.

Thanks

Thanks Daniel,

I uninstalled the old OMSA and downloaded the version (9.1.0) specific to my service tag and for 2008 R2. However when i attempt to install it, it tries to install KB2999226 first, and fails.

Annoyingly that KB is already installed on the server (see screenshot).

The error also says ensure KB2919355 is installed then re-run the installer, but that KB is for Server 2012, whereas i'm running 2008R2. Which leaves me unable to progress in any direction.

Any thoughts?

OMSA 9.1 is not supported on 2008R2. The last version of OMSA supported on 2008R2 is 8.5. If you select other versions at the bottom of the 9.1 download page you should be able to locate 8.5 in the list.

Thanks

Hi Daniel,

9.1 was the latest version offered for my service tag, when selecting Windows 2008R2. I guess that is a mistake on the site, if it isn't compatible?

I chose "other versions" as you suggested, and downloaded 8.5 from the list shown.

Unfortunately, i'm back to the original problem in the first post again, despite following the links for my specific service tag. Does this mean i'm being directed to the wrong version. If so, how do i get the right version?

The file I am being offered for OMSA 8.5 on W2KR2 is: OM-SrvAdmin-Dell-Web-WINX64-8.5.0-2372_A00.exe

Does this look correct?

TIA for your help so far.

If it is still reporting the that an update is available in OMSA after uninstalling 9.1 and installing 8.5 then there are likely files left over from the 9.1 installation.

I would uninstall OMSA again, delete the installation folder after the uninstall completes, restart the server, and then install 8.5 again.

The version files are located in the sm folder of the OMSA installation. The file path on my server is C:\Program Files\Dell\SysMgt\sm\cfg

You should have several .cfg files there. Those files list the current versions of drivers and firmware that should be installed. If you continue to have issues with OMSA reporting the wrong available driver then you can manually edit the current driver version to match the version you have installed.

Thanks

Hi Daniel,

If you recall, I never got as far as installing 9.1, due to the incompatibility error, so it couldn't be old 9.1 files causing this.

Nevertheless, I ran through what you suggested step by step, removed OMSA 8.5 (the only version installed). Removed the Program files folder (same location as yours). Rebooted the server. Reinstalled OMSA 8.5 (as specifically downloaded from my service tag and OS, i.e. W2k8R2)..........STILL same problem!!

In fact the moment the install of OMSA 8.5 completes, I get the email alert from OME, immediately warning me about the out of date driver, so its definitely 8.5 doing this, not any remnant of 9.1

Can you expand how I ...... "manually edit the current driver version to match the version I have installed" ??

TIA for your help so far :-)

Go to the file location I mentioned above, it should be something like C:\Program Files\Dell\SysMgt\sm\cfg, and open the file lsiver.cfg. That is the LSI version file, the H700 integrated is manufactured by LSI for us. I suggest using notepad++ to open the file. If you use notepad it will be very hard to read, and if you use a text editor that adds formatting it can corrupt the file.

Inside the file you should be able to location the section pertaining to the H700 integrated. 2008R2 is a 64-bit Windows operating system, so you can modify the NET64 driver version. Here is the output of my file and I have put the NET64 line in bold:

ID=0x1F17
VENDORID=4
NAME=PERC H700 Integrated
BIOSSP=NA
FW=12.10.7-0001
FWSP=NA

NET64NAME=percsas
LH32=4.31.01.32
LH32NAME=percsas
LH64=4.31.01.64
LH64NAME=percsas
DEF-LX24-32=NA
DEF-LX24-32NAME=NA
DEF-LX24-64=NA
DEF-LX24-64NAME=NA
DEF-LX26-32=NA
DEF-LX26-32NAME=NA
DEF-LX26-64=NA
DEF-LX26-64NAME=NA
ESX24-32=NA
ESX24-32NAME=NA
ESX24-64=NA
ESX24-64NAME=NA
ESX26-32=NA

SE11SP1-LX26-64NAME=NA
SE11SP2-LX26-64=NA
SE11SP2-LX26-64NAME=NA

There is a legend at the top of the file that explains the formatting. Since OMSA thinks you are running a 32-bit Windows operating system you may need to edit the NET32 instead of the NET64.

Thanks

Hi all,

In OMSA 9.1, the component that provides software inventory to OME, is disabled by default. It has to be first enabled on each one of your targets by using Sample - Enable Inventory Collector task under Remote Tasks section and then refresh inventory.

With this extra step, the problem should get resolved while working with OMSA 9.1.

Let us know if this helps.
