0221 - interval timer not functional

My computer does not boot up.  I ran diagnostics and received error 0221 - interval timer not functional.  I read updating the bios may help but how do I update the bios if it does not boot into windows?

Ok, thanks. If you ran the diagnostics, then I presume you were able to boot to the F12 partition, correct? If so, then I would go to downloads, grab the BIOS update, and follow the instructions to run the update in DOS mode from a bootable flash drive.

Would it be worth trying to reset BIOS to see if that clears the error before trying to update?

  1. Reboot and press F2 to open BIOS setup
  2. Copy down all current settings
  3. Power off and unplug
  4. Press/hold power button for ~15 sec
  5. Open case and remove motherboard battery
  6. Press/hold power button for ~30 sec
  7. Reinstall battery (right-side-up!)
  8. Close up and see if it boots now
  9. If any new errors on booting, open BIOS setup and confirm all settings match what you copied
