0xc000026c (Fatal System Error)

Stop: c000021a (Fatal System Error) The Session Manager Initialization System process terminated unexpectedly with a status of 0xc000026c. (0x00000000 0x00000000).

The system has been shut down.

Another computer problem surfaces! Everytime I start the computer, the Windows XP logo will appear and then this Blue Screen of Death will appear. I searched for solutions to this problem in the Dell forum but found them confusing... -_-;

Are there any suggestions besides reformatting? Thanks alot.

Is Windows updated with all current critical updates?

Do you have current, real-time antivirus and firewall protection?

Have you scanned for and removed all spyware?

If the answer to any of the above is no, it's past time for a thorough security sweep of the system.

I would bet you're got one or more malware issues.

I have installed most of the critical updates Windows Updates provides for my system, except for the update for Microsoft Outlook and Internet Explorer 6 service pack 1 since that causes Windows to close.

I used to have Norton Anti-Virus but it's not a very good program to run in a computer that has 128MB of RAM. I don't have any firewalls but I've scanned for viruses and found none.

I'm not so sure about spyware scanning because I only have adaware and deleted the cookies that showed after the scan..

Start with the Dell diagnostics on the hard drive to verify that it's not a hardware fault.

Cleaning up malware isn't always easy. Start by installing and updating an antivirus program, and then boot in Safe MOde and do a deep scan. Remove anything that is found - by using the manual removal instructions. Note: if Norton is still installed, and not up to date, remove it BEFORE you install anything else.

I'll run the Diagnostics later then since I'm not at home at the moment.

As for the Anti-Virus, I don't have Norton anymore because it's already expired so I wont be able to get any updates from it and I think it contributed to ruining my previous hard drive so I probably wont  install it. I'll try running AVG in safe mode and remove anything it finds.

How can I solve it then?

Well it wasn't a hardware problem and I was able to get into safe mode where I scanned (didn't find anything) and decided to use system restore. After the system restore process completed, the problem got worse because it started giving me the blue screen error: IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL, safe mode or not. I decided to just reformat the computer.. which was also problematic since the computer kept saying the CD was damaged.

But I managed to reformat and re-install old and new things. ~_~
