I'm a musician and have a computer based recording studio.  The "old" 15 pin MIDI interface is gone.  New PC's do not come with the MIDI/Joystick port, you will have to buy a USB/MIDI interface and use that, but these are all the standard round "DIN" MIDI connections and not the old 15 pin.  HERE is an example of the adapter from the Musician's Friend site. You should also check the computer program you use with the MIDI to make sure it's Windows 7 compatible.  You may find you will have to upgraded the software to a new Windows 7 vesion.

Thank you for your reply. I am upgrading my composition software. It is compatible with Vista and Windows  7.

I found a Sound Card that is a 15 pin.  Can I add it after I receive my new computer?  There should be at least one empty slot somewhere, right?

It depends on whether the sound card is compatible with Windows 7 (it must have Windows 7 drivers).  If it's a PCI type card, many new PC's no longer have PCI slots and only have PCIe slots so it wouldn't fit in that case.   If you are buying a "compact case" (e.g. an "S") model PC, those require "low profile" type cards - standard size cards will not fit.

Remember the 15 pin Joystick/MIDI interface is "old technology" and a lot of the "old technology" is not Windows 7 compatible.   None of my "current technology" recording studio system hardware with MIDI  has the 15 pin MIDI interface.

Thanks Fireberd.  I will make sure to have a USB cable that will work with my keyboard.  Would the standard sound card work or do I need to upgrade to something else?

The standard sound is OK.  Unless you have a MIDI Synth that you will be using you will be limited to the built in Microsoft GS Wavetable Synth, which is not very good.   I have Band in a Box software and have tried the Wavetable Synth and it's instruments are not very realistic.
