3 1/2 floppy disk problem
I just bought a External USB Floppy Drive for Dell OptiPlex GX280 from Dell yestaerday (6/1/2006) and when I ried to read a floppy disk and ask me if I want to format the disk, is there a driver I need to make this floppy drive to work properly on my computer?
The program I'm trying to load is a microsoft product, and the floppy is a high density disk, I have loaded this program on a previous Dell machine which came with a 3 1/2 floppy installed, but my new machine DIM 2400did not come with one that is the reason why I bought this external floppy disk.

I'm confused. You bought a floppy for an Optiplex and it doesn't work properly but you bought it to use on a Dimension 2400??????
Have you tried using it on the 2400?
There are no drivers for the floppy drives other than the built in Windows drivers.

Yes that is correct, I have a 2400 but DELL sent me the floppy for the External USB Floppy Drive for Dell OptiPlex GX280, which they said was compatible, I'm thinking that the software I have on Floppys from Microsoft is a higher density than 1.44, a microsoft security issue.
I have tried to read a normal floppy and i have no problems.

Oh, OK. A floppy is a floppy - no difference what model. If it reads everything except those specific disks then there most likely is a problem with the discs.
It's very rare to see a commercial diskette with a 2.88 density. There were very few drives even made for thse. I suspect there is some other problem. If these discs were made for an older operating system, that may be the problem - compatibility with Windows XP.
