4600C Fan Issues
Computer is 3 years old, and I am going on my 4th fan in a year and a half:smileymad:. Today, my latest replacement quit working. There is no issue with the " previous fan failure alert", as I have read others have had. I simply keep burning up fans. I keep the comp cleaned on a regular basis, andit is a home desktop computer. Any ideas?
I am out of warranty, so where should I look for another replacement fan? After 2 hrs of being transfered and ignored, I gave up on buying from Dell.:smileymad: P/N is 9G180.
Any and all help appreciated!

This last fan was an aftermarket fan (NBM). My main question is why do they keep going out?I only have the computer on for a couple of hours each day. I keep it where it has a constant source of clean air, and clean it religiously.
Thanks for the link BEV!

Just offering datapoints--I've handled thousands of Dell fans for various issues--many replaced when the issue was something else.
But you're saying fan after fan stops running within a few months of being installed? Suddenly, like one day it runs, next day it doesn't? No noises (rubbing, grinding), just quits? The fan shouldn't make any perceptible noise at all (unless you stick your ear right next to it, then it should just go 'whoosh').
First, the power source is common to the drives and is closely regulated. Also, fan motors will accept minor over-voltages without failure. If you haven't had drive or any other problems, you can mostly eliminate power as a possible cause.
Second, even if the fan is erroneously running too fast, it should last years not months. Dell uses ball-bearing fans. You can eliminate 'wearing out'.
However, 4xxxC chassis don't have room to allow for misplacement of anything, even wires. The 'C' chassis centrifugal fans are subject to mechanical interference. Make sure there is nothing pressing on the fan housing when the case is closed.
