AS500 Sound Bar

Question

I am going to try and make this as simple as I can because It's a little confusing on my end. Ok, purchased a new 2001fp monitor and a AS501 sound bar and it's hooked up properly, but I get NO sound except from my sound bar. Nothing comes out of my Dell 5.1 speakers #5650. Now my old sound bar I had with my 17' LCD everything worked fine. I was looking at my sub-woofer on my Dell speakers and I noticed EVERYTHING goes from it to my Sound Blaster Live sound card and of course to the 4 speakers and up to my sound bar. It seems like here is where the problem lies, because my new AS500 sound bar only goes down to my 'sound card' wit a 'green' mini jack and is supposed to plug in to a jack occupied with a wire that my Dell speakers are in. Now on my new AS500 sound bar I did notice a 'sub-woofer' output jack, but there is not a jack on my sub-woofer that matches it. The jack on my Dell sub-woofer that goes up to my old sound bar has wide multi pin connector which goes up to the sound bar and is hard wired and sealed to the back of it ( sound bar ).   Now here is where it really get confusing...I really don't need any sound bar, but my wife likes one, so I eliminated the sound bars and just used my 5.1 speakers and I can't get ANY sound from them. So to sum up this mess the ONLY way I can get sound is to use my older sound bar and not my new AS500. When I ordered my new monitor and sound bar of course Dell suggested I go with the AS500 and everything would work fine. I think they didn't pull up my account and see what speakers and sub-woofer I had, because if the would of they would of seen that there could be a potential problem. I called them and as usual they tried a couple of things and when they couldn't solve it they said I should come here and make a 'post' and hopefully someone else is having this conflict with the AS500 sound bar and the Dell 5.1 speakers #5650.....I apologize for the long post.   thank you!

If I am not mistaken you can not use the AS500 Soundbar with the 5650 system. You must use the soundbar that comes with the 5650 system.

Thanks and you are so right. I would have to buy all new speakers just to use the AS500. I called Dell and they told me just to keep the new sound bar and they did a credit on my account and wished me a Merry Christmas...Not really they said Happy Holidays because I am sure they needed to be politically correct, but that's OK because it was a surprise credit.....thanks again and you have a very Merry Christmas.....www.trinastich.com
