You can fit an ATX motherboard in the case but you will need to rewire the front panel connector an do a little fitting around the I/O on the back. You'll need a new powersupply that is  P4 compatible. The Intel 845 motherboards are nearly the same dimension as your board. What it boils down to is this: If you like a challenge and have the ability try updating your case, you can save $30 to $50. If you want the easiest route buy a case with the powersupply, motherboard, cpu, ram, and use the drives from your computer.

Hey guys, I'm planning on upgrading my computer to something more powerful soon but Im not sure if I can use my dell case.  I have a Dimension 4100 series with the P3 733 and I would like to put a 2.4 ghz in it.  Has anyone tried upgrading motherboards without swapping out cases and if so, will any board work as long as it is an ATX?

Hi dmak124

It can be done,I did it..........lol ..About four months ago. At the time there was a savings,,,rather than go the new case route.

As of now,,,The savings is  nothing. You can actually get a case and say 350w  P4 power supply, cheaper than you can buy a 350w power supply alone . Look here.  I guess ill go for the $37 one.

I am going to be ordering one of these soon and put my Dell dim 4100 back together as a spare tower.

Good luck on what ever you decide,,,,,,,,
