Add single SSD to T7500

Question

Hi Experts, I have a Precision T7500 with two HDD drives in RAID1 configuration (each with a mirror drive) for a total of four HDD drives filling all my drive bays. I would like to add a single SSD drive as my boot/main program drive, then convert  my HDD boot drive to storage.   I have seen in the forum that the T7500 can only handle 4 drives, but I have a PERC6/i SAS/SATA Hardware RAID Card that supports up to 32 maximum physical drives. Questions: - Can I add a SSD drive to my existing T7500 configuration and exceed the 4-drive max I saw mentioned in another thread?  - Can I add a single SSD as my boot drive without adding a mirror drive? My thinking is this is ok, but will the system always be 'looking' for the mirror drive? - After backing up my HDD drives, do I need to remove all the HDD drives for my fresh OS install (I don't want to copy the existing OS to my SSD) and then add the other drives back in?  Your comments appreciated!

Hi Dellinerie,

Since you have a controller card, the drive limitation does not apply. You do not need a mirror drive for the SSD. Just disable RAID for this drive. I do suggest removing existing drives during the OS install, then putting them back in one at a time and rebuilding the RAID one at a time.

Hi I have 4 SAS drives that I want to install on my t7500. Can anyone help me with this as I'm not sure how to do it! I have also recently purchased a second riser and won't to remove the heatsink but don't seem to remove the casing? Thanks
