Adding RAM to Dell Hybrid

Hello,

I added 2 GB of RAM to my Hybrid; it already had 1 GB. The problem is, it only recognizes the new 2 GB and no longer the 1 GB. So, instead of having a total of 3 GB, I only have 2. Any idea what the problem might be?

Thanks!

Here it is, folks, I finally got all 3 GB working together! How? I don't know, it's a real mystery to me! lol

Here's what I did:

Bear in mind that Memory 1 (1GB) is the memory stick that was in the computer when I bought it.

Memory 2 (2GB) is the Lexar memory stick I bought to upgrade my RAM.

Memory 1 alone in lower slot: No boot service available

Memory 1 alone in upper slot: No boot service available

Now, that is strange, because it had to work in one slot before!

Memory 2 alone in lower slot: OK

Memory 2 alone in upper slot: No boot service available

Memory 1 in lower slot + Memory 2 in upper slot : No boot service available

Memory 1 in upper slot + Memory 2 in lower slot : All 3GB up and running

Any idea how this is possible? I'm flabbergasted (as usual with computers)!

Hi Solyvida,

Try switching the modules around. If that does not help, we need the exact part number of the new RAM.

I did switch the modules around, sometimes 1 GB is working, sometimes 2 GB. Never 3 GB at the same time.

You mean the exact number written on the part?

I added a Lexar DDR2 2GB memory upgrade.

Part number of the new memory module is : CT25664AC800.M16FH

It also seems to be a DDR2 PC2-6400.

I need the part number or the specs for the new memory module.

Each memory slot in your Hybrid can hold DDR2 PC2-5300 or DDR2 PC2-6400 with a maximum of 2GB per slot. However, you'll get the best performance from a matching pair.

Nobody can answer my question?

So shouldn't it work with the factory-installed 1GB RAM that was in the computer when I bought it?

So, what do you think Osprey, should it be compatible?

You have a memory incompatibility and that is leading to the system running in single channel mode coupled with the fact that in order to run in dual channel mode the memory must be installed in pairs. So even with a single stick you would be in single channel mode.

what happens when you have an incompatibility in your memory is your memory controller becomes confused and doesn't know which ram specs to process so it will revert to the lowest specs and amount.
