Adding RAM to XPS 8900

I recently bought ax XPS 8900 desktop that came with 2 x 8 GB RAM sticks.  I would like to add 16 GB more but the Dell.ca site only offers 16 GB sticks for the 8900.  I assume that one has to add 2x8's to fill the four slots and not mix different size sticks.  If correct, how can I get  2x8's from Dell?

It looks like the same here on the US website.  I would go to crucial or newegg and see if you can find chips in the 2x8 range you are looking for.  Crucial is really good at getting you memory that works with your system.

I would check the memory timings using CPU-Z and make sure the memory you are buying is the same.

I'm not sure about the 8900, but the 8700 doesn't like all the memory and sometimes down clocks it to a slower perceived more stable speed.

I just installed 64 gig of RAM on the XPS 8900. You do not need to go through Dell to do the upgrade just make sure the DDR4 ram you are getting has the right specs and you should be okay.
