Adding USB 3.0 adapter in XPS8300

Is there no problem by adding a  PCIe (half' height), Dell  part Nr.: 492-11032 (18YXJ), to the PCI-Ex 1 (PCI express x 1 card slot)?

Thanks and best regards.

Hi Ray,

Yes, you can install the USB 3.0 adapter card in the PCI-e x1 slot as XPS 8300’s motherboard has three slots. This would not cause any issues with the other USB ports.

Please let me know if you need further information.

Hi H.J.Ray,

You would not require a separate mulex connector for the above card. However, I would suggest you to go for full height card for your system. You can go for PCIe (full height), Dell part Nr.: 492-11031 (1294K).

Hello Ravi,

We only have 3 PCI Express 1/2 height slots left in our XPS 8300.

And 2 x 5 contacts Sata type connectors + 2 PCI Express, 6 contacts (12 v)

How about - Dell-onderdeel : A5566860 ?

CABLESTOGO Cables To Go 2-Port USB 3.0 SuperSpeed PCI-E Card - USB-adapter - PCI Express - USB, Hi-Speed USB, SuperSpeed USB 3.0 - 2 poorten

Tnx for your advice.

Hi H.J.Ray,

XPS 8300’s motherboard has three slots of PCIe X 1. The ‘Half height’ and ‘Full height’ of a card depends upon the chassis size. If your system was slim tower you would have needed half height cards but XPS 8300 is Normal mini tower which needs full height card to be placed in the PCIe X 1 slot.

‘Dell - onderdeel: A5566860’ is a full height card which is compatible with your system.
