Adding memory to optiplex 3040 SFF

So, we have a wee 3040 here that my mates kid is using. Hes got his hands on a generic 8gig stick of PC 12800 and planked it into the 3040 along with the existing 4gig stick and it wont post. As we have other parts about we tested the following

1: Its own normal 4 gig stick  - POSTs
2: the new 8 gig stick on its own - wont POST
3: the new 8 gig stick with the original 4 gig stick - wont POST
4: the new 8 gig stick with another 8 gig PC10700  - wont POST
5: two sticks of 8 gig Pc10700  - wont POST
6: put the new 8 gig stick in another system on its own or with other memory - POSTs fine

so from what I can tell the issue is with the optiplex itself, have to confess ive never seen this and we use 3020's and 3040's in work so not exactly unfamiliar with them.

Any suggestions, Anyone seen this before?

Sounds like the 8 GB RAM modules aren't compatible with the 3040.

And the only fix would be to buy compatible RAM modules from some place like Crucial that guarantees the RAM works if they recommended it for a specific system or they take it back...

after a more *** about, it seems the SSF machines only accept low voltage ram. So a 1.5v stick is just not gonna work. Thanks anyway

Like I said, those 8 GB modules aren't compatible with this PC.

And please watch your language. I see the forum's censor software had to edit your last post.

The 3020 SFF is compatible with 1.5v, but I don't know about the 3040.
