Alert! Memory population error for DIMM 3. System Halted!
I have an Optiplex 980 about 3 years old. It has 2 x 2GB on it. I get this error, Alert! Memory population error for DIMM 3. System Halted! when I turn it on. Memory chips are in properly and the F1 key does not work. Any suggestions? Thank you.

Sounds like the module in slot 3 may have failed. Try swapping them in their slots. If the error message changes to a different DIMM number, that DIMM has failed. If it stays at DIMM 3, the slot may have failed.
