Analog Input in Powersave Mode

This message always occurs the minute I turn on my computer.  I recently purchased and received this new monitor last week.  I purchased this because my previous monitor would go black and the power light would start blinking (green).  I have now come to the conclusion that I didn't need a new monitor.  Can anyone tell me what is going on?

blackkat,

* Press the Input Select button on the monitor
* You should see three choices, VGA, DVI, Auto Select
* Leave it on Auto Select

Does the issue still occur?

My monitor goes into "power saver" (black, with blinking green light)and if I hit enough keys tells me to use the computer to turn it on. I can't turn it on, I can't see the screen...my computer doesn't have power saver turned on... the computer is an (old) Dell Optiplex, and the monitor is a newer model Dell. The machine worked this past weekend with a borrowed HP monitor

Sallie0660,

First, lets verify that the monitor is good.

* Turn off the monitor
* Plug the monitor power cord directly into the wall socket to remove any surge protectors or APCs from the troubleshooting equation
* Unplug the monitor video cable from the back of the computer
* Turn on the monitor
* The floating red/green/blue/white dialog box should appear on screen against a black background

Is this what you see? If yes, the monitor is working and the issue is with your computers video card driver or the video card itself.

Can you tell me how to replace the video driver?  How can I tell if its the driver or the card?
Thanks Chris.

Just to check, do you have power save for the MONITOR shut off?

Have you tried removing and reinstalling your card's drivers?

Hi, I have exactly the same problem with my video card. My system is a Dell XPS 600 and it started to have this problem with the DVI input, I changed to VGA input and it worked fine for a few weeks but now none input is functioning properly.

I've tried changing the monitor (Compaq) but the same thing happens since the monitor goes to power save mode after some seconds of turning the system on so I have no chance of make some troubleshooting.

Is there some way to reset the video card config ? Seems like the initial state of it is "Power Save Mode"

Thanks.

I wouldnt rush out and get a new video card.  My XPS 400 started doing the same thing a couple of days ago and I did that yesterday thinking the problem was the vid card.  $500 later and still doing the same thing. Checked the monitor on another system in analog mode and it is fine.  This has got to be bios or OS related but you cant get to either because of the black screen on the monitor.  The blue screen of death has now been replaced by the black screen of silence.
