BIOS/CMOS Very slow

I have a very slow startup between BIOS & Win98. BIOS detects my four devices, RAM etc. then I get a blank screen with blinking cursor. During this time, the floppy drive and CDRW are checking themselves back & forth. Each drive checks itself approx 5 times then launches into Win 98! Once in Windows there are no problems, the burner works fine, a:\drive is fine etc. I have read thru many threads, and it appears some are saying the problem is with device mgr having a hold for a ps2 mouse. I also, have a logitech cordless keyboard & mouse, and haven't yet tried disabling the device.
Thoughts or solutions greatly appreciated

The Three Mice Syndrome seems a fact of life for owners of Microsoft Meeses with IntelliEye. I am unsure if the mouse is the cause of your slow startup, but you can try this; in the Device Manager, go to the Microsoft PS/2 mouse(Intellipoint) and disable this hardware device in the Properties screen. DO NOT disable the HID-compliant mouse feature or you will have no mouse at all(don't ask how I found that out). Restart and see if that helps your problem.

I have a similar but different problem.

My PC sometimes hangs on the blank screen with blinking cursor in the left hand corner before it gets to the ME screen. It doesn't do it all the time and I don't see any lights on the drives. If I shut it off it and reboot I can get it to go right away.

I would appreciate any ideas also.

I found an oldost similar to mine, back In January witha person with the same problem. I conytacted him & his solution & mine was to change the boot order placing the HDD first & floppy second.

This works for me, as for the mouse it may be that also as I have a Logitech cordless mouse & keyboard.
Great things these computers.

Thanks one & all.
