BIOS Upgrade on 8300 does not work

Hello,

I am trying to upgrade a Dell Dimension 8300 BIOS from version A00 to A03.  I have downloaded the .exe, made a boot disk, and run the program.  Everything works fine up to this point.  It then asks me:

"About to replace Dimension 8300 BIOS.

Press 'Y' to replace "A00" BIOS with "A03" BIOS."

I hit Y.

It then says:

"Confirm replace BIOS?"

If I hit Y it reboots and the BIOS is not updated.

If I hit any other key I get the following message:

"Flash Process Canceled

The system BIOS contents will remain unchanged.

Press any key to continue..."

How can I flash the BIOS to "A03"?

Thank You,

The only other times I have seen this reported it has been due to a corrupt download.  Download the file again, create a new disk, and see if it works.

Hello Again,

Upon further investigation I find that in my System Event Log every time I try and flash the BIOS with version A00, A01, A02, or A03 I get a CMOS Checksum Error.  I have downloaded multiple BIOS files multiple times.  I do not think they are all corrupted but I guess they could be.  This is a very early board maybe that is causing issues.  Is there a way to force the BIOS to accept the flash update?

Thank You,

It sounds like the worse case scenario has occurred and the BIOS has become corrupt.  If this is the case, you will need to replace the motherboard.  Corruption of the BIOS is always one of the risks you take when upgrading the BIOS.  You may need to call Dell Tech Support to get further information on what your next step should be.

Thank You for the input,

I tried everything I could think of on 3 different motherboards and I finally got it to work.  I had to install Windows XP and run the DOS BIOS file from there in order for it to work.  The funny thing is that once I check the yes box and then confirm, it reboots into dos, updates, reboots and is good to go.

Thankx again,
