BSOD nvlddmkm.sys errors on Studio 540
Have a Studio 540 for almost 5 years which runs on Windows Vista (SP2) 64-bit. Haven't had any issues with it at all up until about a month ago. The first BSOD error message that came up talked about an nvlddmkm.sys. It attempted a system repair with no luck, then system restore with no luck. It was like a vicious cycle. I finally got it to boot up to safe mode and tried to update the nvidia drivers (they were from 2008) to the latest driver (2013). Work for about a day or 2, then had the same problems over again. It got worse - deleted all my prior system restore points. It would boot up, attempt to get into windows, then go right back to rebooting again. Never made it into Windows. Under WHOCRASH, saw BCCodes of F7, 116 and the last one was 101. I also noticed blue lines streaking down the monitor.
My last attempt at fixing, I completely deleted ALL nvidia drivers and rebooted. The computer started up with no problems under Standard VGA (though I lost the use of my second monitor and am definitely not used to the screen having huge icons and large print everywhere).
Could it be a failing graphics card? The graphics card is NVIDIA GeForce 9800GT.
Any help would be GREATLY appreciated!

Actually, I just checked the tower and the GPU fan IS running! It's located in the underside of the graphics card and it was spinning away quietly.
So... this changes things a bit. How do I get a new power supply? Through the dell website?

By the way, how can I check to see that it's not the power supply? I'd hate to buy a new graphics card and end up with it frying again because of a power supply issue!

So definitely a graphics card failure. Age? Dust? :(
Thanks for the recommended replacement. They also have it in Best Buy for $99.99. Guess I know where I'll be going next.

GTX650 is going to require a new power supply with PCI-E aux power connection.
There is no one size fits all "test" for a power supply. You arent going to go out and spend $1000 or more on a good Lab volt meter and Oscilloscope so the basic test would be to replace the power supply first to see if that clears up everything and or check the GPU fan to see if its spinning at all. If you arent replacing the power supply then I would recommend a Radeon 7750 instead.

Bcc code 116 Video TDR problem is GPU fain failed and you overcooked the gpu. Its now permanently damaged. The video artifacts mean this as well OR power supply is dying and frying things. Could be both at the same time.

Artifacts indicate damage. Blue Lines could also be LCD damage. But is more likely overheated GPU damage.
This kind of damage has multiple source vectors and the forum is not the psychic friends network.
There is no one size fits all diagnosis or fix.

This is 540 or 540S aka Small Slim? HCG 620 fits in Mini Tower.

Studio 540 (not slim). Found a refurbished one in the Dell site.
I realize that it may not be the fix, but we have to start somewhere. At least I am still able to access the computer. So if the GPU fans are still running, does that mean it may not be damaged? How can that be tested?
