Blue Screen error: ialmdd5.DLL (DirectDraw(R) Drive for Intel(R) Graphics Technology

Hello,
My problem is fairly recent and only occurs when playing The Sims 2. Shortly after the game starts it will freeze, crash, and then go to the blue screen that "memory dumps". The technical information is as follows:

Stop: 0x0000008E(0xC000001D, 0xBF0CBF34, 0xA779C638, 0x00000000)

ialmdd5.DLL - Address BF0CBF34 base at BF07E000, Date stamp 00000000

Please let me know what I can do to fix this. I have already checked to see if there are any new dowloads for this driver, and there were none that I could find. I am not a very computer literate person, so if you can dumb down the solutions into step-by-step, I would really appreciate it.
Cheers

Try running DxDiag.exe in the windows/system32/ folder.

Start Menu->Run->DxDiag

See if it finds any errors while going through directX diagnostics.  Also, have you installed any new drivers recently?  Do you have the latest version of DirectX?

Since this is a problem with a game, you may want to post this in the Gaming section of the forum.  You may get more help there from the gamers.

I have not installed anything new on my computer besides software. I have DirectX version 9.0 on my computer, and will check to make sure that it is the latest version, although I find it difficult navigating through Dell's website to find downloads that are useful.

It is apparently not just a problem with the game as a new part of the same drive caused my video to go all crazy last night. Windows told me to run the Memory Diagnostic tool. So I will do as my computer tells me too :)

I would appreciate any further suggestions. You guys are great!

DirectX 9 is the latest version as far as I am aware.  There might be a DX10 Beta out there somewhere.

Your first problem is finding downloads off of Dell's website.  Look through Windows update.

What kind of software did you install right before this happened?  Check for malware at http://housecall65.trendmicro.com
