Boot up problem

When booting the Dimension XPS T450, we get the message "Your previous MS-DOS files were not found. MS DOS startup failed." Then it runs the autoexec which is: "set tz=est5" and "sr.bat".

1. My wife attempted to set up a ZTech Snaprest which asked for a defrag twice, and never really finished.
2. SnapRestore Hard Drive contents in GB screen shows Orig. factory stuff taking up .73g, Current files and data: 2.40, and her data took 2.35
3. Her hard drive properties showed her 6.4g drive as being only 2.39.
4. Deleting the Snapshot failed, hung up the machine, but when rebooted, freed the drive back to 6.4g
5. If I add the line "WIN" at the end of the autoexec, the machine boots, and seems to act OK.
6. Dell documentation says to boot to the Dell Diagnostic floppy and fill in the form, but we didn't get the floppy.

Doug - Thanks, glad to hear we're not smoking dope over here! Did you give any
thought to uninstalling SnapRestore to avoid accidental usage? We can't find any
uninstalls for it, and don't think simply erasing it will do any good.

Thanks again for the post!

Bobby,

I had the same problem with my xpst 550 about a month ago Snapshot srewed the whole thing up. I called tech support and they had me add the win to autoexec.bat to boot the system up. You are still going to see that message when the computer boots up and then it goes right to Windows. From what I was told by Dell Tech Suporrt the only way to fix this would be to to a Deltree of C:\windows and C:\Programs. Tech supoort also said if its not cuasing any major problems was to leave it be. If you decide to do a Deltree just back up all your file for you will have to re-install all programs. I learned to live with the message. If you find anything out about getting rid of this message please let me knon. Also if you try to do a Zztop restore you will fine that you integrity check will fail.

Bobby,

I just stay away from snaprestore all together. I read other post were people had problems with snaprestore after running windows defrag, it seems that after running defrag the files become corrrupt. I think that Dell should re-test this progam or suplly some documantion on it before installing on systems that they ship if they are going to offer extra softwear let us the consummers choose what softwear we want installed. Or maybe they should just burn a restore CD to bring the system back to factory setting. Let me know what you decide to do.
