CORE 2 DUO!

Today it happened. Intel finally released its newest chip, Intel Core 2 DUO and Duo Core 2 Extreme. Looks nice. Wish i have it. Anyways, i dont understand, why would intel go all the way back down to 2.13ghz with core 2 duo? That part i dont understand, i thought they would have broken 4GHZ without overclocking by now, i guess not. What do you think, ravi

Core2duo or conroe - uses completely different architecture compared to  P4. In P4 the Ghz was ramped up quickly without as much performance benefit (as the chip did less work per clock cycle)and they were power hungry as well. Finally the P4's netburst architecture died .. as  around 4Ghz, the power consumption became hard to control.

A core2duo will probably outperform a P4 with 2x the clock frequency while saving energy .

Intel had one benchmark with the 2.4Ghz Conroe against an overclocked AMD FX-60. Conroe did very well .. but that benchmark was from Intel after all ...  Waiting for more benchmarks ....

hmm, looks like dual core is really starting to kick off. cant wait until core 2 duo is benchmarked!

My son just got a Core Duo CPU in his new notebook (not a Dell). It's amazing how many things you can run at once without seeing any performance loss.
