CPU Excessive noise

My Dimension 8200 arrive today and I am concerned about excessive noise from the tower. In my opinion, it sounds like a loud fan, but the noise does seem to change in intensity from time to time. I work around computers and have other Dell computers and this humming noise is excessive. Anyone else have this type of experience with the 8200? Mine is a P4 1.7 gz

Thanks,
Tom

I have an 8100 P4 1.7ghz. I've had it about a month, and for the past 6 days or so, the noise is terrible. I don't know what changed it, and I've thought maybe it was just me and I can get use to it. But I just have to sit down here a little while and my ears are ringing when I leave. I guess I finally call tomorrow night if I get the chance and see if then can do anything about it.

This is now like my 4100 that I purchased about 13 months ago that was this way from the beginning. Dell acknowledged the problem then and did free fan replacements that made great improvement.

I replied in an above related topic, so will be brief here. When I ran through the email recommended test procedure, it appears that the hard drive is causing my noise problem.

I seem to have the same problem with excessive noise. My wife and I both bought 1.7 g Dimensions at the same time and both were delivered with the same excessive noise. I can't imagine why they were sent out in that condition but I would be interested in hearing more about fixes for this problem if anyone has more info. Thank you.
