CPU Upgrade for Inspirion 660s

I am considered putting a i3-3225 in my 660s. Should be a good bump from the G2020 and I want the HD4000 gpu. Does anyone know of any issues that could bar this? Thanks!

Hi praynor,

Dell Inspiron 660S is shipped with following processors:

  • Intel Quad Core i5
  • Intel Dual Core i3
  • Intel Pentium Dual Core
  • Intel Celeron Single Core

Theoretically speaking, you may install Intel Pentium Processor G2020 (3M Cache, 2.90 GHz) and it should work. You may check the comparison between the one shipped by Dell and the Intel Pentium Processor G2020 from the link http://intel.ly/13hAfLm.

Dell does not recommend or offer processor upgrade but it is as your discretion in case you really wish to go  ahead with it. Warranty per say, issues arising due to the upgrade will not be covered under warranty , however we will continue providing support for other issues and parts.

Hope this helps. Please reply if you have any questions.

I suggest applying the latest BIOS patch first.

Regarding unsupported CPUs, that's an open question. For example, I don't know if the XPS 8500 shipped with the i5-3570K, but I installed one in mine and it was properly recognized anyway.
