Cable Modem is properly installed...
I just had a cable modem installed today on one of my comps. The cable line is linked to a linksys workhub to the uplink port and the connection works great on my old HP meaning the webbowsers load properly and function like they are supposed too. Unfortunately this is not happening on my relatively new dell which has a pre-installed NIC combo card which is working properly according to the giag. I cannot get any webpages to load on either internet explorer or netscape navigator. The cable modem is working properly but for some reason I cannot get my new Dell with the 45 Gig hard drive for mp3's to interface with the cable modem. any help would be appreciated.

I'm going to expand on this below, forgive me if I use simplistic terms, I do not know your experience level.
Typically, an Ethernet (cat5) cable such as you are using for this application will have the following "pins" (or wires if you prefer) connected end for end: 1 to 1, 2 to 2, 3 to 3, and 6 to 6. It may well have all 8 wires in it, but only these 4 are important. Pin (wire) 1 is white w/orange stripe, 2 is orange w/white stripe, 3 is white w/green stripe, and 6 is green w/white stripe. It doesn't really matter what color they are, just that they are connected properly. You can determine also which pin is which by holding the end of the cable in your hand as if you were going to plug it into the wall with the "tab" down, the pin/wire on the left side is pin 1.
In the case of the Linksys/3Com combo however, the "standard" pin-out above does not work. You must swap wires 3 and 6 on ONE END ONLY, effectively "crossing" them. It's also called "reversing polarity". What you should end up with is a cable pinned as 1 to 1, 2 to 2, 3 to 6, and 6 to 3. If you do not have the tools, or know someone at work that has the tools needed to accomplish this "crossing", try down at your local Radio Shack or computer hobbyist store-don't bother with Best Buy, or any other PC chain store, they'll only give you a "look" and laugh at you when you've gone :o)
Good Luck!
