You do not need an update since the video is integrated on the board. The current driver is customized by Dell for your model and requires Dell Drivers, not Intel. What version of Lightroom? That might need updating.
I understand that the video is integrated into the board and the drivers are supposed to be by Dell, which actually made me MORE curious because when I looked at the driver in the device manager, it said the driver was supplied by Microsoft (instead of by Dell)
I bought the machine second hand and I BELIEVE they originally came with vista? When I bought it, there wasn't an operating system on there (it had been wiped clean), so I installed Win 7 Pro on there.
So maybe the original dell drivers were never installed???
I tried updating the Video driver. I am not 100% sure it updated correctly though.
The driver release dates are different (mine says driver date of 10/4/2012 but the one on the Dell download site says the release date is 15 Jan 2013 | Last Updated 21 Mar 2014
As for the version dates, mine now says 8.15.10.2869 while the one on the site says 8.15.10.2869,A15
I assume that A15 is referring to the Bios version, and I do have the BIOS updated to A15 (the latest version).
So does it sound like I have the latest video driver even though the release dates are different?
~~~~~~~
One other thing. If I look at the drives for all the System Devices, they are ALL from windows and they are all from 2006. Does that sound right to you???
For example, if I look for the driver details for:
Intel(R) 4 Series Chipset Processor to I/O Controller - 2E10
The provider is listed as Microsoft and the Driver Date is listed as 6/21/2006
If I click on the Driver Details button, it says: Do driver files are required or have been loaded for this device.
If I pick another System Device at random, like the PCI bus, it will say that the driver is provided from Microsoft and give that same date of 6/21/2006
So I am just curious if you think I might need to update my System Devices drivers, and how exactly I might do that?
The release dates may differ because Dell drivers are essentially rebundled Intel drivers. The 4th of October 2012 will be the date Intel made the driver and the 15th of January the date Dell rebundled it.
A15 has to do with the Dell video driver revision and not the BIOS revision although in this case they are both at revision A15.
From the look of things it may be worthwhile installing the Dell System Software and the Chipset drivers.
I have the latest version of lightroom: 5.7.1
Running win 7 Pro 64-Bit
Is this the driver I need for my Optiplex 780???
Intel GMA 4500HD/4500MHD Driver
http://www.dell.com/support/home/us/en/19/Drivers/DriversDetails?driverId=1M8J9&fileId=3108345746&osCode=W764&productCode=optiplex-780&languageCode=EN&categoryId=VI
When I expand the information about this driver, it says:
Compatible Systems: Optiplex 780
Supported Operating Systems: MS Windows 7 64-bit (the operating system I have installed)
Applies to:
Also, if you have any suggestions on HOW TO install it, that would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.
Sounds like the driver you have is the basic Microsoft Display driver which has limited functionality. You can try to install.
Intel GMA 4500 HD / 4500 MHD version 8.15.10.2869 from Dell:
http://downloads.dell.com/FOLDER01026645M/3/Win7_64_15.17.19_2869_Dell_setup_ZPE.exe
Alternatively you can use version 15.17.19.64.2869 from Intel:
https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/22166/Intel-Graphics-Media-Accelerator-Driver-Windows-7-64-Windows-Vista-64-zip-
Driver installation is simple, just make sure the driver extracts and installs and not only extracts, similar to here:
Intel Matrix Storage Manager:
It may also be worthwhile installing the Ethernet and Audio drivers. You have already got the video driver.
I need the hardware IDs to determine whether the Ethernet controller is Intel or Broadcom.
Use this audio driver:
