Can I activate a floppy drive without accessing BIOS?

hi,

my bios update failed, i have a few things to try which require a floppy disk drive. i gather i need to get into the bios to activate the floppy drive, but i can no longer access bios set up, i just get am amber light and no video signal. is there another way to activate the floppy drive?

thanks

No, to enable the drive, you need to enter the system setup [BIOS].

It would help to post the computer model.

Try removing the cmos battery to reset the corrupt bios update. If after reinstalling and booting the computer it still won't post then I'm afraid your mb is toast.

With the e521, you still need to enter the system setup [BIOS], to enable a floppy drive.

You're right. Only 90% of failed BIOS updates result in a bricked MB. Probably more like 95% of the time with Dells. Have you tried an external USB floppy drive? I doubt that it will work but if you have or can borrow one it's worth a try.

come on, that's not entirely true. there's more than one way to rescue a failed bios update. unfortunately one of those ways requires my mb to see a floppy drive, which at the moment it doesnt.

All the BIOS updating utilities I've seen require user intervention, i.e. pointing the utility to the BIOS update file. How do you do this without video?
