Thanks shesagordie and Tom Green. However, these instructions only work for a fixed HDD. In Computer Management - Storage there are two options. One is Disk Management where all the fixed HDDs are listed and I have changed the drive letters there (as I stated originally). However, under Removable Storage I have Libraries with both my DVD drive and CD drive listed. This DOES NOT give the option (when you right click the mouse) to change the Drive letter. Hence the question. Any help would be appreciated.
Are you sure you're using Windows XP? When I go to disk management, my RAID is listed first, but second on the list is my DVD drive. If I right click on it I get a menu that has changing the drive letter as one of the options. Maybe you should look again?
I was just about to say, absolutely positive. Windows XP SP2. However, I double checked.
I have two Windows XP computers and a Windows 7 computer; all networked via a router that connects to the Internet on a 3G dongle. One XP system has a single HDD. The other (which is where I want to change the Drive letter) has 2 x HDD each partitioned into (essentially) 2 plus an external HDD partitioned into 3. The Win7 system has 2 x HDD each partitioned into 2. I wanted to rationalise the drive letters (as you can imagine, otherwise, across the network, knowing which drive I was addressing could become confusing).
I have now solved the problem by relabelling the HDDs.
However, your prompt caused me to double check. You are correct. At the bottom of the Disk Management window is the CD_Rom. IT IS NOT SHOWN at the top and I had simply not scrolled down to find the removable drives listed below the HDDs.
So thank you.
Only problem that I know have is that I cannot write to the CD-rom !!!! I've tried disconnecting it (via the OS), rebooting and "finding new h/w" but to no avail. Even went back to System Restore but neither approach has worked.
thing in this area.Hi JackShack - thanks for that. Yes. It was unchecked. Not sure how that came about as I had not changed anything in this area. I had even "uninstalled" the CD Drive and re-installed it. Thanks for your help.

disk management
mouse down to lower panel and select cd/dvd drive to change then right click on it.
should see option to change drive letter.

Rod Stocker
The directions for Changing the Drive Letter Assignments in XP are HERE.
Note: The only drive letters that cannot be changed, is the volume that has XP installed on and the floppy drive.
Bev.

Try going to My Computer and right click on the drive, select Properties, click the Recording tab and make sure recording is enabled.
