Changing RAM voltage

I recently acquired 2x2 4gb ram sticks that should ideally be set to 2.1V.  I wanted to go into the BIOS to change (or at least check) it, but for the life of me I cannot figure out how.   I have an XPS 420 and dxdiag says my BIOS is Phoenix ROM BIOS PLUS Version 1.10 A02.  Any help is appreciated.

Sorry but there is no way you can do this. Dell locks down their bios. You should try to RMA  the ram and get ram that is in the 1.8v especially if you plan on running more then 4 gigs.

Or rather, 2x2gb... gah I'd kill for an 'edit your post' option right about now.

Whoops, its 2x2 2gb (4gb in all) sticks.  Not that this should really be an issue...

That is... very annoying.  I appreciate your candor but I doubt Dell will be getting any more of my custom.  Here's hoping this changes in the future.

P.S.  I was just looking at your RAM, Davet, the RAM in question is exactly what you're using!

I know that some 2.1v ram will work on the 420 and some will not. The problem is the memory controller chip on the motherboard.  Now with only 4 gigs installed the chip will handle the 2.1v ram fine. The issues arise when you go over the 4 gig range. Even on my system the ram i installed worked but the timings were downgraded because my controller could not provide the proper voltage that the ram needed. I had to have OCZ rewrite the SPD for the ram sticks in order for them to run at spec with the voltage my system could provide.
