Choppy Audio FINAL FIX!!!
Choppy Audio in Win XP
After months of experiencing choppy audio with my Dell Dimension 8300 computer (1GB RAM, 250 GB hard drive), I have finally reached THE satisfactory fix --- thanks to a fabulous Dell support technician named Jose from Panama City.
So, here’s the solution to the CHOPPY AUDIO: the Secondary IDE Channel had Device 0 set to “PIO” instead of Ultra DMA Mode 2. To fix it, you may need to download a file from www.support.dell.com called “PIOtoDMA.exe” which will force the change from PIO to DMA. If the “current transfer mode” box has no selections other than “PIO” and you want it to have “Ultra DMA Mode 2” then just run the PIOtoDMA.exe file. Just search the Dell web site for that file to download, then
ð Right click My Computer, Manage, Devices, uncheck the + sign on IDE interfaces, right click Secondary IDE Channel, Properties, Advanced and you will see Device 0 box and Device 1 box
ð Make sure both Device boxes have Transfer Mode set to “DMA if available” and Current Transfer Mode set to “Ultra DMA Mode 2” (if that is not an option in the box, then run PIOtoDMA.exe and it will do it for you --- restart computer.
ð Not only will the audio be of normal fidelity, but your computer will access and transfer data faster.
HOPE THIS HELPS ALL OR ANY OF YOU!!!
